I mentioned an alternative to the P2C (pay to customize) Ill post it this is a quote from me post #178 on page 4

Pay 2 play games are based around microtransactions. And if you think about it most people spend money on customizations. Instead What if you introduce a way for players to make their own customizations, I'm not talking gadgets like ACOG or such. I'm talking paint jobs, the stuff people want show that makes them different from everyone else. Its most obvious in TF2. They can take designs from the internet and upload it to the game and then rearrange it on their Vehicle, weapon, Helmet. Now I know what your thinking. Racism Obscene pictures. Run of the Mill problems. Now we can solve this by putting a size limit on it. Or a limit to how many decals you can put on a piece of equipment or Emblem.Now for the I'm no Adobe Photoshoppist. (Is that the correct terminology?) I'm not sure if theirs technology to filter images of shapes on images like we do for language. If there is I'm not aware of it. But that's one alternative for Paying for Customizations.

The 2nd Alternative.
Could be similar to receiving an item for logging in daily.
Every day you play starting at a person gets a random decal(s), emblems, icons, Images, basically anything related to art customization to make you stand out. The rewards that a player may receive are based upon the number of consecutive days on which a player has logged in at least once. common to uncommon rewards for 3 to 6 days, and common to rare rewards for 7 or more days. The counter does not reset after day 7. A single day spent offline will reset the counter to 1 day.

It's a bit odd how the forum system pushes things to the end... do you guys like the nested reply system ? Or should I switch back to a traditional linear post system where it's always sorted by time, and you can't "reply" directly to a post ?

These could be very cool hostile alien life, don't you think? plus perfect if there is any survival/las stand gamemode. You could combine diffrent animal characteristics to create a lethal monster as I did above.

Oh nice, I didnt saw that feature, I have this thread in my favorites so i always come directly tot his thread. I tried to make uncommon or at least cool combinations for the aliens. Since you have some artists which have done some pretty amazing job, I'm sure they will be able to do cool extraterrestrial beings., that from above was just a reference of what it could be.I know youre only working in mars/wasteland/desert environments at the moment, but even so, I would recommend to start making cocnept art of landscapes/environments/maps and alien life, so you cna have an idea about what are you going to add in the future, and plus youll have new cocnept arts to sohw and update in moddb, steam greenlight and in the crowdfunding campaign. Consider a APC , aircrafts, and map ''props'' buildings and objects too. Because as you said before, the rest are features that are already prepared and that just need to be implemented. Although features like the aircraft carrier aren't needed until you know you can do them. (but even so, I strongly reommend it, its just a fantastic feature, remember that if it has amphbious assault capabilities to carry boats and other vehicles it would be really useful, when it comes to the design the main reference is carrier command gaea misión and the other concepts i posted in the first page, then im pretty sure your cocnepts artista will be able to make a high detailed aircraft carrier).

If only the gameplay of that game had been like this tráiler... I suppose you know, but units in Endwar act as FPS units, just look at the infantry behaviour, they use lots of animtions like in any FPS: firing, take cover, fall, enter in buildings, regroup, help eachother etc.. Though you cannot direct control them, if not it would have been a much better game. An interesting feature is that you can give orders using your voice.

DLC?

I was thinking for some time that, you came up with the idea of the aircraft carrier, and then due to that, i came up with a gamemode idea set in the open space. And i thought: Since he is making Sea/Ground/Air battles, why not adding a Space battle too? Maybe as a DLC. So basically this is the idea:

After you released the game succesfully and fixed the main problems/issues it had (using the new case feature) , you could try releasing the first DLC, with very different features compared to the vanilla game, but with the same gamestyle. These would be:

Main features:
- Space/Orbital Warfare Gamemode
- Maps set in the open space: Asteroids, Orbital stations/platforms surrounded by energy shield bubbles (which simulate gravity, so dropships can land there and drop vehicles etc), etc.
- Motherships, frigates, destroyers, fighters, bombers, dropships (Made for space, with a variant that can lift vehicles too, the difference is that the infantry transport one would be used as a infantry spawn/respawn too) and cargoships (Basically the space truck variant).
- Increased maps size for space warfare? (Since there wouldn't be no terrain and many details as a ground map you could consider it).

This gamemode could make Homefront 2/SW: Battlefront 2 players fall in love, since its a combination of them (Plus angels fall first: Planetstorm).
This gamemode is about 1 mothership for each team spawning in two different corners of the map, these motherships/gamemode would have this characteristics (??):

- Mothersips, Similar to the aircraft carriers, but very big/large sized and shield generator surrounds the hull, they can produce and spawn big spaceships.

- 2 Frigates would spawn at it's sides with support roles.

- The frigates/destroyers/motherships couldnt be piloted, these would be IA that follow orders of the high commander (Battlefield 2142, the commander could set waypoints for the titan, so this is somehting similar but more RTS). The turrets could be used by the players though.

- Players/IA would spawn inside the mothership, in the hangars basically (SW:Battlefront 2 reference), and then spawn aircrafts such as Fighters, Bombers, Cargo ships (Trucks) and Dropships. The curious thing is that they could spawn ground vehicles too, and lift/transport them to a zone with gravity (Inside energy shield bubbles (orbital platforms), or inside the enemy mothership). So you would actually have GROUND BATTLES, in space. How cool and epic would that be!. You would already have the ground vehicles, so why not to take advantage of it?.

- High commanders wouldn't have the same supports and features from ground warfare, such as an orbital strike. But they would actually be controlling (RTS) the mothership, frigates and destroyers. (Others could be dreadnoughts, battleships, corvettes, etc...). Using resources gathered form the battlefield, they could make the mothership, BUILD AND SPAWN OTHER BIGGER SPACESHIPS.( such as frigates destroyers etc... homeworld 2 Reference).

- The mision would be to destroy the enemy mothership and all the enemy units that are left, or by domination by controlling the battlefield. apart from this it would completely be like killing horizon, because after all this is no new game, but a dlc which adds many different features to achieve a Brand new gameplay experience.

- Asteroid mining? Or similar resource system to vanilla horizon.

Projects with ambitious goals like this one that try to innovate would probably be more succesful tan a more normal game. If you present thing like these in a crowdfunding youll have many more people excited. Specially RTS space players nad SW: Batlefornt 2 players.I'm pretty sure about this.

Amazing stuff man ... I wouldn't really call this DLC - more potential as a MOD, or expansion, or something only Premium members/purchasers would get access to.

Have not had time to look it over - it's almost a totally new game, and is honestly totally out of scope of "Vanilla Horizon" like you suggested. Though my initial technical impression is that it's very possible by making modifications to my Helicopter entity class, to turn them into spaceships.

This would be very far down the road :-)

Basically would be a expansion pack that anybody could buy, but you could automatically buy it buying the Ultimate/Premium version of the game so you have everything in a single pack. Looks appealing, isn't it? And this is without taking into consideration all the other features you want to add to these versions. but im pretty sure if you included these from above, it would encourage people to buy the game, and not only the basic version. so the crowdfunsing would have more posibilities of succeding, and youll end having more resources to improve and finish the game and expansions.

I know an example of a man that wants to make something ambitious too, the result? succesfully crowfunded already within 9 days, and still 21 days left. Set a ambitious goal that you think you can achieve if you get crowdfunded, and youll get crowdfunded. But first youll need at least concept art or ingame features to show to people. Because you cna talk much, but people need facts. Just an advise.

So I was speaking to some of my friends (Big gamers, large fans of RTS's and non-modern shooters) and the suggestion came up to make cover important but not all-important (If that makes sense)

In summary the idea is to have cover a key aspect of gameplay but not make it the primary goto in battle. Adding mechanics to the game to add skill levels and quality of gameplay, small things that may or may not get you killed or get you a capture zone

You described them pretty well, only that i thought the aircraft carrier was going to pick te same role as the titan (mothership too). So theres no need of the same type of titan as in battlefield 2142. Because the carrier has the same role.

So now it clearly covers Sea and Air, aircraft carriers...and that case also covers the "Titans". You should paste your reply in that case, I'm starting to code for the day, otherwise I'd organize all the existing feedback by pasting them as comments in the appropriate case.

Here is my opinion on that: We can balance the flying version of the aircraft carrier so it can work without support vessels.

I would like to see support vessels and a sort of traditional naval warfare element around the sea carriers. But I'd like to see a Titan gameplay mode, where there's a fuck-off-big flying homeship/carrier for each team on the map. If we balance it right, should be no problem.

Though I think the assumption would be" "there wont be Sea Carrier's and Air Carriers on the same map at the same time, due to gameplay mode restritions."

We have discussed about almost everything, maybe specify the gamemodes?

TeamDeathmatch: 2 teams fight each other until enemy reinforcements and forces are 0.

Close quarters TeamDeathmatch: 2 teams fight each other until enemy reinforcements and forces are 0, these maps are way smaller than the others, mostly infantry based. Fast action in these gamemode.

Command Point Control: Domination gamemode, the 2 teams struggle to control all the command points/areas from the battlefield.

Conquest: 1 Team assaults a stronghold position, and the other team defends it. It has 2 rounds, where team roles change.

Capture the Flag: 2 teams fight each other to capture the enemy flag and bring it back to the main base.

Carrier warfare: Basically you have to sink the enemy aircraft carrier. Very similar to titan gamemode from battlefield 2142. If posible, there could be other big ships such as frigates.

Carrier warfare (Expansion): Basically you have to destroy the enemy mothership. Very similar to titan gamemode from battlefield 2142. If posible, there could be other big ships such as frigates that the mothership could build like in homeworld 2.

Tournament mode: List of random maps with random gamemodes.

Confrontation: A gamemode for 1 vs 1or 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3 or 4 vs 4 (few players). Includes all gamemodes from above.

Last stand: Cooperative gamemode. Set your defenses and prepare to counter lots of enemy waves (aliens/enemy units) . Reinforcements and other supports are available. The goal could be survive or/and protect something from being destroyed. You could earn resources by killing enemies, and keeping resources points. (Dawn of war 2 last stand gamemode as reference)

(Only tanks vs tanks / gunships vs gunships gamemodes?)

I would rename your Conquest to "Assault", otherwise I've thought of pretty much all these but never took the time to write them down...man you rock!!! I will enter the ones that are not in-game already into the Case Tracker ASAP.

Hmmm, pretty much have all these done - I added the Carrier and Titan gameplay modes to the Carrier Case ... the others are all pretty much done already - except the tournament - that would require a large infrastructure and wouldn't be feasible right now or in foreseeable future.

The Last Stand mode is a lot like the Survival Gameplay mode we already have a Case for.

As usual, everything I thought to add was brought up...

Overall I think have one playable mode should be priority to get down the game's mechanics and infrastucture down, games modes and other assests can come after that stuff is done. Well thought out kickstarter/tier list too, perhaps there could be a custom tier as well for stuff that isn't on there that someone can come up with? (I've always been a big fan of have custom stuff, adding more factions as a perk would be pretty cool too...)

Oh and on that note, the "Titan" map mode could have the maps expanded to include the ability to have jets and other air units (18x18 maybe?) that way we could eliminate the need for support vehicles because you could have small support crafts (Helis, bombers, guns on the titan specifically for AA etc.)

I also do design work if you're looking to get some stuff done, I'm not the best but not the worst either.

That's almost like a texture

That could be done using a point+radius and a a texture clip() inside a pixel shader - I use that for all kind of things but not for damage.

They used a similar technique for the zombie damage system in Left for Dead @ Valve ... see the white paper around somewhere, it's pretty legit. I could 100% implement that - it's at my point of diminishing returns now though. A zombie game, it would be front a center...removing body parts...they were limited to 3 "wounds" per character model though.

With orbital strikes the destruction you mentioned could be somewhat game breaking, instead we could have deep-impact strikes (Same thing) that enter the ground, then cause a sub-terranian explosion creating isolated destruction which could be an excuse for a more accurate shot...

Pretty much, shoots a shell from orbit into the ground; explodes underneath the ground and explodes underneath the ground (This allows for easier programing because you could simply add a shake effect, some rumbling noises and a high damage DoT) or we can just stick with the whole big boom from space, both are pretty cool

Yea you're right that's an example of an Orbital Strike, potentially ordered by a commander [ or how about anybody willing to spend the XP ] obviously there will be in-game limits or requisites for resources which will stop the spam problem.

I'll get all this stuff put into a digital instruction manual sometime soon :-) I'm focusing on programming the game and all it's goodness right now. Working on getting the AT4 rockets to look sschweeeet, and a buncha other stuff.

I thought that the commander would need unique tactical options, but youre right, maybe every player should have acces to them, but then what would be the role of the high commander exactly?
the example would be the new comander from battlefield 4, who is the only player who has acces to them. but i dont know. Maybe each teamleader (Player) should have acces to these too?

Also, any other ideas for tactical aids apart from the ones of above?

Well, that's why the high commander is still a feature request - the way I've designed it EVERYONE can be a commander because they'll just be expending their own XP [ as well as shared team resources, and LOCALLY gained XP, which is XP gained that round/game ]. I'm assuming at some point there will be orders and commands that will be so important they will have to fall to a single player [ the leader on the team, or the elected high commander ], which is why I think it will be important at sometime - but not the initial releases.

I think you pretty much covered all the major stuff, we can think of some new ones once we start playing the game online - the initial prototypes are going to be offline for a while. I have the whole multilayer architecture coded - and some parts like XP, chat, etc will be working - but until we hammer out the offline prototype I'm going to hold off on multilayer releases [ except maybe to the $49.99 early adopters ]

Yes I covered a lot of things, but these always can change you know.

I still don't know whats the difference between the Basic/Premium/Ultimate, and that if there is something i could be interested in the crowdfunding backer rewards, so i'll probably wait until the kickstarter crowdfunding before buying it. ( The kickstarter will have $49.99 early adopters too right? But i dont know, there could be some more expensive pledge I'm more interested in... ).
